The kodeo CLI 2.0 — what's new

KODEO from your terminal — a full-screen dashboard, the room (chat, comments, notifications), KODEO Assist and Help, the project's Git and pull requests, teammates' terminals, and a smarter kodeo watch.

The kodeo CLI 2.0 brings everything KODEO does that makes sense in a terminal — and keeps every 1.x command working as before.

Install or update

npm i -g @kodeohq/cli
kodeo --version

It needs Node.js 20 or newer, on Windows, macOS or Linux. kodeo doctor checks everything (connection, keychain, sign-in, git, your terminal, KODEO for VS Code) and says how to fix what isn't right.

What's new

  • HOME — type kodeo on its own: the linked folder you're in and its sync state, your unread notifications, recent projects with who's live, and one-key shortcuts.
  • The dashboard — kodeo ui: the project, files, activity, chat, comments, Git and teammates' terminals on one screen. See The kodeo dashboard.
  • Any project, anywhere — kodeo switch picks a project (recent first), so project commands work outside a linked folder. kodeo new creates one from a template.
  • The room — kodeo who, kodeo chat, kodeo summon, kodeo comments, kodeo comment and kodeo inbox. You appear to everyone as "· CLI": present, never editing. See Chat, comments and notifications in the terminal.
  • KODEO Assist and Help — kodeo ask and kodeo docs; support tickets with kodeo support. See KODEO Assist and Help in the terminal.
  • The project's Git — kodeo git … and kodeo pr …, including the commit graph, blame and pull request reviews. See The project's Git from the CLI.
  • Teammates' terminals — kodeo terminals and kodeo terminal watch. See Watching a teammate's terminal from the CLI.
  • A smarter watch — a live status line (✓ synced, ↻ sending, ↓ receiving, ☁ offline), who has which file open, notifications and chat above it, and conflicts settled with a key press.
  • Your theme — your KODEO theme in your terminal, any of the 20 with kodeo config theme, and --plain for screen readers. See CLI themes, plain mode and accessibility.
  • With VS Code — one sync engine per folder, kodeo code at a file and line, kodeo login --vscode. See Using the CLI and VS Code together.
  • Your computer — kodeo usage, kodeo signins, kodeo config and kodeo reset.

Nothing changes for scripts

Every command still has --json (a versioned schema), the same exit codes, and asks nothing under CI=true, with KODEO_TOKEN, with --json or without a terminal. The full list is in Every kodeo command.

Opt-in, always

Desktop notifications (kodeo config desktop on) and anonymous speed numbers (kodeo config telemetry on) are off until you turn them on. KODEO Assist is told a few state words about the CLI — never your code, files or terminal output.
