Getting started
CLI themes, plain mode and accessibility
The kodeo CLI uses your KODEO theme in your terminal; pick any of the 20 with kodeo config theme. --plain is for screen readers, NO_COLOR turns colour off, and motion can be reduced.
Your theme, in your terminal
By default kodeo draws with your KODEO theme (Settings → Appearance) — your dark theme on a dark terminal, your light theme on a light one. To pin one of the 20:
kodeo config theme # pick from a list, with swatches
kodeo config theme aurora
kodeo config theme auto # back to your KODEO themeOrdinary commands never paint a background — only text colours, matched to your terminal. The dashboard (kodeo ui) paints the whole theme.
If kodeo can't tell whether your terminal is dark or light: kodeo config background light (or dark).
Colours adapt to what your terminal supports — truecolor, 256 colours or 16 — and every colour also comes with a word or a symbol (✓, ✗, ▲, ●), so nothing depends on colour alone.
Plain mode, for screen readers
kodeo status --plain
kodeo config plain on # always
KODEO_PLAIN=1 # in your environmentPlain mode is linear text: no boxes, no cursor movement, no animation, full words. Questions are asked one line at a time. The dashboard isn't drawn in plain mode — use kodeo who, kodeo chat, kodeo inbox and kodeo git status.
Colour, motion and symbols
NO_COLOR=1or--no-color— no colours.kodeo config motion reduced(orKODEO_REDUCED_MOTION=1) — no spinners or transitions.--ascii(orkodeo config icons ascii) — plain ASCII symbols for old consoles.kodeo config icons nerd— Nerd Font icons, if your terminal font has them.
kodeo doctor shows what kodeo detected about your terminal.

kodeo config desktop on # desktop notifications (off by default)
kodeo config telemetry on # anonymous speed numbers (off by default)
