Troubleshooting
Solo mode and "Reconnecting
Why the editor says Solo mode or Reconnecting, why your work is safe, and how to get live collaboration back.
1 min readUpdated 27 Sept 2026
What it means
Live editing uses a separate connection to KODEO's collaboration server. If that connection drops — your network blinked, a firewall blocks it, or collaboration is paused — the editor switches to Solo mode.
In Solo mode:
- you keep editing and saving normally — nothing is lost;
- saves are version-checked, so if someone else changed the same file you'll be shown both versions instead of overwriting theirs;
- you won't see teammates' cursors, chat or comments live until it reconnects.
Getting back to live
It reconnects by itself, usually within seconds. If it doesn't:
- Check the status on the Support page — if live collaboration is having problems, it says so there.
- Reload the editor tab.
- On a work or school network, a firewall may block WebSocket connections to
collab.kodeo.website. Try another network.
Solo mode is a safety net, not an error — KODEO is designed to keep working when any single part is down.
