Workspaces and roles
What Owners, Admins, Editors and Viewers can do, how to switch workspaces, and how to leave one.
The four roles
| Role | Can |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything, including billing, cancelling the plan, transferring ownership and deleting the workspace. One per workspace. |
| Admin | Manage members and invitations, projects, settings and billing (but not cancel the plan or delete the workspace). |
| Editor | Create and edit projects and files, run code, use Git. |
| Viewer | Open and read projects, comment and chat — no edits. |
In the editor, a Viewer sees a read-only badge; if a project already has as many live editors as the plan allows, extra people join as spectators until someone leaves.
Switch workspaces
Use the workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar, or Ctrl/⌘ + K and type the workspace's name.
Change someone's role or remove them
Owners and Admins do this in Members. Removing someone closes their live editing sessions in that workspace straight away.
Transfer ownership
In the workspace's Settings → Transfer ownership the Owner picks one of the Admins. The workspace — and its billing — moves to them, and the old Owner stays on as an Admin.
Leave a workspace
Settings → Leave workspace in that workspace. Owners must transfer ownership first. You can always leave, even if the workspace requires two-factor and you haven't turned it on.
