Notifications in VS Code
KODEO notifications reach VS Code even with no project open — the Activity view lists them, and the ones you care about pop up, by your own settings. A comment notification opens the thread itself.
KODEO's notifications come to VS Code as they happen — a mention, a reply, a review request, a support reply, a file you sent from your phone — whether or not a KODEO project is open.
Where they appear
- Activity (in the KODEO side bar) lists them by day — Today, Yesterday, This week, Earlier — with an unread count on the view and in the status bar's bell.
- Pop-ups in VS Code's notification corner, for the ones that matter (below). Each pops up once, in the window you're using, even with several VS Code windows open.
Click one — in Activity or on its pop-up — and it opens where it points:
| The notification | Opens |
|---|---|
| A mention, a reply, a resolved thread | the file, at the line, with the comment thread expanded (and selected in the Comments view) |
| A chat mention | the project, with the chat on screen |
| Sent to your computer, a summons | the file at the line |
| A review request, a pull request | the project (open the pull request from Pull Requests & Checks) |
| A support reply | the ticket, in the panel's Support tab |
| A Help article | the article, in the panel's Help tab |
| Anything else | its whole text, with Open in Browser |
Which ones pop up
Your KODEO notification settings decide, the same as on your phone:
- A type pops up when its Push is on in Settings → Notifications. Types that can't be turned off (security notices) always do.
- Always, whatever Push says: mentions, replies to your threads, Bring Everyone Here, review requests, terminal control handed to you, support replies, and anything you send to this computer.
- KODEO's pause and quiet hours apply in VS Code too (security notices still show).
- A burst — a busy review, a bulk invite — is one summary, not a stack of pop-ups.
- When you're live in a project, a teammate's comment there already pops up from the room (with Show), so its notification doesn't pop up a second time.
KODEO: Notification Pop-ups… (or the gear on the Activity view) changes it for VS Code:
- Important (the default — the rules above), Everything, or Off (Activity only). The setting is KODEO › Notifications: Pop-ups.
- Pause pop-ups for an hour — in VS Code only.
- Mute a project — right-click one of its notifications → Mute Pop-ups from This Project. They still arrive in Activity.
Send to my computer
In the mobile editor, Send to my computer sends the file and line you're on to yourself. If VS Code is running, it pops up there straight away with Open; if it isn't, it pops up when VS Code next starts (within 15 minutes) or when you click the notification on kodeo.website. Your choice under Settings → Local access → Open code links in decides whether it opens in VS Code, Cursor, the browser…
Not seeing them?
- Make sure you're signed in (KODEO: Sign In) — the status bar shows a bell with the unread count.
- Check KODEO › Notifications: Pop-ups isn't off, that pop-ups aren't paused, and that the project isn't muted (KODEO: Notification Pop-ups… lists muted projects).
- Check the type's Push setting in Settings → Notifications, and your quiet hours.
- A sign-in that reaches only some workspaces can't read notifications (they span every workspace). Sign in again and allow all workspaces.
- Behind a strict firewall the live channel may not connect; VS Code then looks for new notifications whenever its window comes back into focus.
